It's swim time!!!!

Brax is enrolled in ISR(infant Swim Resource)program which is a drowning prevention program for children ages 6 months to 5 years old. Brax started this last summer (2009)where his instructor (Mrs. Robin) taught him to float on his back to save himself if he were to fall into a body of water!! He was only one at the time of last years lessons and although it was uncomfortable to hear my child scream during the his instructional period, it paid off as we got to witness his abilities to save himself first hand; when he walked into the pool at his grandmas house and immediately assumed his float position.

This year in the program Brax will learn the swim-float-swim sequence. Today marks the start of his second week and Mrs Robin has B getting(learning to swim) the stairs on his own as well as getting the wall (basically finding an exit) in order to get himself out of the pool. It is absolutely remarkable to see this take place. Brax keeps his eyes open under water and finds Robins hand(an underwater cue) and then she makes him swim to get the wall or the stairs. Last week he did the "superman float" to get her hand & the wall but as of this weekend in the pool with me and yesterday with Mrs. Robin he began kicking his feet to really swim! It's so awesome!!!

I am very thankful for this program and his instructor, Mrs. Robin. ISR has proven to be very beneficial in teaching our little guy to respect the water and learn how to save himself in the need occurs.

These pics are from the first day of lessons this year. Mrs. Robin was refreshing Braxton of his float. He was crying but by the third day of lessons he stopped and when he was finished with the lesson he was saying "go swim with Robin again" I love hearing these words!!!!
